James “Jim” Marcus Anderson, 79, of Black River Falls passed away, Wednesday, September 13, 2023. He was born February 28, 1944, in Jackson County, WI, to Ernest and Gladys (Emerson) Anderson. He was raised on dairy farms in Spring Creek and Cloverdale areas of Jackson County, WI. He helped milk cows, do chores and field work while on the farm. He attended Disco School through the 8th grade and graduated from Black River Falls High School in May 1962. He married Diane Thompson on January 27, 1968.

Jim entered the US Navy on June 11, 1962. During his 20-year naval career, he lived in Virginia Beach, VA; Williamsburg, VA; Newport News, VA and Great Lakes, IL. In the Navy he was a Boatswain serving aboard several ships including USS Springfield, USS Albany, USS Mountrail, USS Milwaukee, USS San Diego along with 2 tours at Great Lakes Naval Station and a tour in Naples, Italy. He was also a member of “The Stream Team” based out of Cheatham Annex Naval Station, Williamsburg, VA for 4 years. The team instructed cargo handling aboard several different ships. His tours also took him to the Mediterranean, North Atlantic, Cuba, St. Thomas, and Antarctica.

He retired from the US Navy as Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CWO3) on July 30, 1982 at a Great Lakes Naval Training Base Graduation Ceremony. The family then moved back to Black River Falls, WI and he worked for Krohn Clinic, Ltd. for 20 yrs. After retiring he worked for Black River Falls Clinic Pharmacy until October 2014.

He loved the outdoors especially fishing and hunting with his son Chad and friends. He loved his family deeply and was a great husband, father and grandfather.

Jim is survived by his wife Diane, daughter Amy (Josh) Twitchell of Holmen, WI and son Chad (Cassie) Anderson of New Richmond, WI, granddaughters Madison, Molly and Kora. Sister Karen (Bill) Foust of Black River Falls, WI and nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death was his parents, Ernest and Gladys Anderson, brother, Donald Anderson, and in-laws, Norman and Evelyn Thompson.

Funeral services for Jim will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 18, 2023 at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Black River Falls with Pastor Jenny Hatleli officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Little Norway Cemetery. Friends and family are invited for visitation Sunday, September 17, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Torgerson Funeral Home in Black River Falls.
