Jeffrey Parker Hilts, 83, of Black River Falls died Sunday, April 21, 2024 in his home
surrounded by his loving family. 
Jeffrey was born May 18, 1940 to Kenneth and Alice (Hanson) Hilts. He grew up in La Crosse
but later moved and graduated from Black River Falls High School. He married the love of his
life Jill (Murphy) Hilts August 4, 1962 in Milwaukee. Jeff and Jill had two children and lived in
Milwaukee about ten years before moving back to Black River Falls.
Jeff worked for the General Telephone Company until his retirement. In addition, Jeff and Jill
owned and managed Murphy’s Rooms and Apartments of Black River Falls for many years. 
Jeff and his wife, Jill, traveled to all 48 states and all provinces of Canada on their Harley with
many of their friends. He was an avid card player who enjoyed playing with family and friends.
Jeff was a dedicated and passionate Packers fan and never missed watching a game. In his spare
time, Jeff enjoyed making his famous horseradish pickles to share with others. He also cherished
spending time at the cabin on Lake Winnie fishing and sipping on something cold.
Survivors include his son, Mark (Kari) Hilts of Black River Falls; his daughter, DeeDee (Todd)
Torkelson of Black River Falls; four grandchildren, Danielle (Derrick) Groshek, Shea Torkelson,
Jordy (Bryce) Miles, and Courtney Hilts; great-grandchildren, Livia and Grady Groshek; sister-
in-law Katie Rogers. 
Jeffrey is preceded in death by his wife, Jill; his parents, Kenneth and Alice Hilts; and his
siblings Bernadine and Maurice Rogers. 
The family would like to express their deep appreciation and thanks to: Healthcare providers at
Krohn Clinic, Black River Memorial Hospital and Black River EMS/first responders,
Cornerstone Caregiving of Eau Claire, Stacy with Integrity Home Health of Eau Claire,
Heartland Hospice of Eau Claire, and neighbor and friend Dean. 
Funeral services will be held at 12pm on Saturday, April 27, 2024 with visitation being held from
10am-12pm at Buswell Funeral Home. Following a burial at Shamrock Union Cemetery, there
will be a celebration of life and luncheon at R&R’s First & Last Chance in Black River Falls.
