On March 10, 2024, Joan Lyons, 82, fell asleep peacefully holding the hand of her husband of 49 years,
and entered into heaven.
Joan, born November 7, 1941, was the matriarch of her family. Her robust personality was bigger than
the stories told about her. She was stronger, more loving, and more giving than words can ever describe,
and our world is a lot dimmer without her light. The Joanism, the Joan face, her curse-laden rants, sense
of humor, lead foot, and overwhelming love transcended more than family, but to everyone she met.
She was a Minnesota Vikings season ticket holder for 30 years, a member of the Arcadia Lioness club, an
avid bird watcher, and the greatest mother the world has ever seen.
Joan is survived by her loving husband George, who spent the last number of years taking the best care
of her. She left this world with her children to carry on her legacy: Shelly, Maria, Mike (Julie), Heather
(Paul), Bobbi, and Matthew (Samantha); and grandchildren who brought her the most joy: Nicolette,
Liam, Honesty, Danny, Adam, Michael, and Haley. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren that
she loved “bigger than the sky”, four sisters, Randy Moss, and the whole Minnesota Vikings
organization.
Preceding her in death were her parents: Edmund and Delores Kokott; brother: Michael; son: Keith; and
the 1998 Minnesota Vikings. A special thank you to Shannon for taking such great care of her. She loved
you as family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Joan’s home church: St.
Michael’s the Archangel Catholic in North Creek, rural Arcadia with Father Kyle Laylan officiating. Family
and friends are welcome for visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at church. Burial
will be at a later date. To express condolences to her family online, please visit
