It is with great sadness that I share the news that John Singleton passed away after a short battle
with cancer on October 1, 2026, at the age of 77. He missed his 78 th birthday by one day. He
passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He left us the same way he lived, with
bravery and honor.

John was born in Mauston, Wisconsin to John and Mary Singleton. He was raised in Camp
Douglas, Wisconsin. He attended grade school in Camp Douglas and graduated from the Tomah
High School in 1966. He joined the Army in 1967 spending much of his service time in
Germany. He was a State Patrol officer from 5-15-72 to 9-18-2000. He began his career as a
motor vehicle inspector in Plymouth, Wisconsin. In 1973 he was assigned to Jackson County as a
trooper and remained there until his retirement. John received the Medal of Valor from the Police
Officer’s Hall of Fame, the Meritorious Service Award and many other commendations and
citations. After retirement he drove semi part time. John was a past member of the Black River
Falls Fire Department and celebrated being in the American Legion for 50 years 2 years ago.

John spent much of his time restoring old vehicles and motorcycles. His first restoration was a
Model A that his father bought for him at age 16. He loved to hunt and fish. Hunting birds with
one of his beloved Springer Spaniels was a favorite thing to do. He loved having coffee and
lunch with his friends. His talents were many, including carpentry and working with his lathe. He
was well known for his ‘tell it like it is’ attitude and his wonder sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife, Claudia; daughters, Sarah (Jeremy) Faulkner, Melanie (Dave Ward)
Singleton; his sisters, Betsy (John Boltik) and Susan (Jamie) Alexander; brother, Robert (Cindy)
Singleton; grandson, Adam Faulkner; sisters-in-law, Jane Moen and Selina Moen; and his
Springer Spaniel, Andy; along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Singleton; paternal grandparents, Ralph
and his beloved grandmother, Ann Singleton; maternal grandparents, Vern and Jane McNeill; his
mother and father-in-law, James and Ethel Moen; his brother-in-law, Steve Moen; nephews,
James Hays and Danny Moen; and niece, Carlie Chandler.

There will be a Celebration of Life on October 11, 2026, from 1-5 p.m. at the American Legion
Post #200 in Black River Falls, Wisconsin. Military Honors will be at 1:30 p.m. Lunch will be
