Kathleen “Kay” A. Haines, 81, of Whitehall, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, February 16, 2023.
Kay was born in Arcadia on April 26, 1941, to Wayne “Skippy” and Eileen (Frie) Litscher. She was united
in marriage to David Haines on September 22, 1962, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Arcadia, and the
couple was blessed with 56 years before David’s passing in 2019. She worked as a CNA at Tri-County
Hospital and Nursing Home for many years and also part-time at Kwik Trip in Whitehall. She was
everyone’s “Grandma” and absolutely adored children, and was especially obsessed with her great-
grandchildren. Kay’s heart of gold was apparent in her volunteer work with St. John’s Catholic Church
PCCW, where she helped in the kitchen and for Fall Festivals. In her younger years, Kay was a member of
the Winona Clown Club, the BRAD Association, and volunteered with the Easter Seals for charities and
telethons, paying forward a generosity that was shared with her after the passing of her son, Dennis. In
her spare time, Kay loved to bake, work on arts and crafts, and go “grocery shopping” at various casinos
with David. Her granddaughters will always cherish the little trips to Wisconsin Dells and hotel stays, as
well as the cooking and baking skills that were passed down from Grandma. Kay was an avid Green Bay
Packer fan and a collector of all things bears. She truly enjoyed visiting with people and gossiping while
socializing at the cafes downtown Whitehall during her regular get-togethers with other CNA’s she
worked with. She will be truly missed by her loving family.
Kay is survived by her son: Michael of Black River Falls; granddaughters: Jordana “Jordy” (Brian
Steinhoff) Haines of Black River Falls, and Mikhael (Jordan) Langrehr of Rockland; great-grandchildren:
Aiden-Marie Kay Haines, Rory and Roman Langrehr; siblings: Terry (special friend, Donna) Litscher, Deb
(Tom) Hansen, Cindy (Rich) Osiowhemu, James (Terri Jo) Litscher and Keith (Sheila) Litscher; and many
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son: Dennis; mother and father-in-law: Christ and
Pelchie Haines; daughter-in-law: Lisa; and many aunts and uncles.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at St. John the
Apostle Catholic Church, Whitehall, with Father George Thayilkuzhithottu officiating. Family and friends
are invited for visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at church. Burial will be in
