Larry Lee Palmer, 80, formerly of Trempealeau, died on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the Trempealeau
County Health Care Center in Whitehall.
Larry was born on July 26, 1942, on the Palmer Homestead in rural Walworth County to Lawrence and
Regina (Morrisey) Palmer. After graduating from Elkhorn High School, Larry enlisted into the United
States Army where he served until his honorable discharge. He was united in marriage to Karen
Poppendieck on October 13, 1965, in Waukegan, IL, and together the couple was blessed with 57
anniversaries. Larry’s love for the outdoors encouraged him to start up his own landscaping company,
being self-employed until his retirement. Larry found a true passion in photography and was always out
and about in nature with his camera. Together with his wife, Larry photographed beautiful pictures, and
created a collection of books to share his artistic eye. He and Karen enjoyed canoeing, hiking, and
volunteering with the Trempealeau Wildlife Refuge. Larry was always promoting the refuge and
encouraged others to explore the trails and conservation center within the park. He will forever be
remembered for his kindness and generosity he dedicated to the promotion and preservation of the
area he called home.
Larry is survived by his loving wife: Karen of Trempealeau; brother: Peter (Fran) Palmer of Houston, TX;
nieces: Ann and Amy and their families; and nephew: Michael Sax. He was preceded in death by his
parents and sister: Pamela (Ronald) Sax.
Per Larry’s request, no formal services will be held. He appreciated all who were able to attend his living
Celebration of Life and asks that you remember him how he was on that day. To express condolences to
