Leone Elizabeth Olson, 82 of Independence, passed away at the Whitehall Tri-County
Hospital Friday, April 18 th 2025 with her daughters and special friend Joyce Klimek by
her side. She came into the world June 22, 1942 to Norman and Lillian (Hundt) George.
Leone attended Saint Aloysius Catholic School and graduated from Arcadia High
School. She married Ronald Matchey in April of 1961. They had 5 children together.
They shared the hardship of losing 2 children. She later married James Olson.
Together they enjoyed dancing and traveling. They had the opportunity to see all 50
states together.
Leone was involved with the Rosary Society, the Funeral Group, the Independence
Homemakers, the Red Hats along with various other organizations. Family was of great
importance to her. Leone loved to cook and bake for family and friends. Leone enjoyed
to knit. All of her grandchildren and great grandchildren have received baby afghans
that were made with LOVE.
She liked to read books, play cards and BINGO, and watch hummingbirds from her
kitchen window. She took delight in attending events for her grandchildren and great
grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Sandra Joern, Sue (Neil) Pronschinske, Brenda
(Francis) Sonsalla; daughter in-law, Shannon Matchey; grandchildren, Carl (Lindsey)
Joern, Erin (Evan) Carr, Kyle (Natalie), Eric, Shawna, Lee Pronschinske, Andrew
(Grace), Michael Sonsalla and Shylin Matchey; great grandchildren, Brooks, Piper,
Beckett Joern, Oliver, Lorelei Pronschinske and Arthur Sonsalla.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Olson; son, Steven
Matchey; daughter, Stacey Matchey; and granddaughter, Alexandra Joern
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. A donation in Leone’s honor will be made to
the PCCW for the kitchen restoration.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at S.S.
Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father George Thayilkuzhitottu officiating. Family
and friends are welcome for visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
