Lizard Mound Park in Washington County is set to return to the control of the State of Wisconsin. Officials say the move will make it possible to better preserve the more than two dozen Native American effigy mounds on site. The 22-acre park became a state park n 1950, but has been managed by the county since 1980. Initial plans include limiting the recreational footprint of the park in order to further promote the preservation of the cultural and historical significance of the effigy mounds.
