In Hixton, Cain’s Orchard has received a $15,000 Accelerate Grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago, supporting its commitment to local agriculture and community. Co-owners Derrick and Carmen Heard expressed their gratitude, emphasizing the orchard’s legacy since 1976, when it was founded by Kevin and Diane Cain. Justin Blaken, Vice President and Senior Loan Officer at Black River Country Bank nominated and assisted Cain’s Orchard with the Grant application process. Blaken said BRCB is proud to partner with Federal Home Loan Bank to provide the grant to Cain’s Orchard. He noted the goal of the program is to help small businesses grow and develop, and BRCB felt Derrick and Carmen Heard were perfect candidates. The Heards say the grant will help purchase a new apple washing machine, crucial for meeting food safety standards and helping them for future generations to continue creating lasting family memories at the orchard.
