Lyle Eugene Chandler, of Hixton, WI, passed away on March 13, 2026, at Mayo Clinic
Health System in Eau Claire at the age of 83.
Lyle was born on September 18, 1942, to Wayne and Laura (Christianson) Chandler in
Black River Falls. He was one of 9 children. He grew up in the Hixton area and attended
school in Hixton.
After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army. He served from 1960 until
1963. He was a sharpshooter and worked in the motor pool as an auto mechanic. The
majority of his time in the military was spent overseas.
On April 30th 1970 he married Elaine Nelson and they began their adventure together.
Lyle worked as a mechanic at Waughtal Implement and then worked on the massive
dump trucks at the Jackson County Iron Mine in Black River Falls until it closed. He
went back to working in an automotive shop when the mine closed, but he decided on a
career change and got his CDL. He drove a flatbed for Roehl Transport until he retired.
Lyle was a quiet man with a heart of gold. Behind his resting grump face was a kind and
gentle soul, with endless amounts of patience. Anyone who knew him can attest to this,
as he had to put up with his wife’s very vocal opinions. But he could often be seen
chuckling in the background. He made his opinions known. He just did it quietly.
Lyle also enjoyed watching western movies. Especially Clint Eastwood and John
Wayne. There was a reason his wife had her own TV in the kitchen where she could
listen to the news while she worked on something.
Lyle liked a good joke, and enjoyed reading western novels. He would have had quite a
large collection if he didn’t trade them for ones he hadn’t yet read at the Hatfield Flea
Market.
Lyle enjoyed fishing, hunting, target shooting, reloading, and spending time with family.
Lyle is survived by his son Tom (Patty) Chandler, daughter Lynn Crawford,
stepdaughters Peggy Stutlien and Melanie Bolen, granddaughters Shelby (Anton)
Chandler, Amanda (Michael) Zupan, grandsons Curtis Cusick, Waylon Chandler,
Gabriel Chandler, Nicholas (Tasha) Walsh, Andrew (April) Bolen, Arthur Bolen, and
Shan Morgen, great-grandchildren Matsu Cusick, Asuka Cusick, Anya Rogozhnikov,
Joseph Zupan, Parker Walsh, and Rowan Bolen, sisters Joyce Olson and Phyllis
Gunderson, brothers Richard (Raye) Chandler and Michael (Evelyn) Chandler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Laura, wife Elaine, brothers
Kenneth, Jerry, and Alan, and sister Dorothy Lein.
