Marian R. Brown, 91, of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 18, 2022, surrounded by family, at Marinuka Manor Nursing Home, Galesville. She was born on June 12, 1931 on French Island to John and Carrie (Dokken) Musser.

She attended Melrose High School, and graduated in 1949. Marian married Chester Snow Brown on April 15, 1950 in Melrose. Together, they farmed for years in Mill Creek, West Salem, and Melrose. They raised 7 children.

In addition to managing a busy home, and helping with the farm chores, Marian worked a variety of jobs over the years, including Library Assistant at Melrose-Mindoro High School, and Sales Associate at Dayton’s. She was known for her love of books, antiques, glassware, and collectibles. She will always be remembered by her family for her creativity, curiosity, and intelligence. She will also be remembered for her energy, ambition, determination, and grit.

Marian is survived by her children; David (Debi Hansen) of Melrose, Julie (Gary) Goodenough of Mindoro, Tony (Abby) of Marine on St. Croix, MN, Chester Todd (Karen) of West Salem, Tracy (Pam Jessie) of Melrose, Barry (Teresa) of Melrose, and Bradley of Melrose; sister, Mary Lou Young; and sisters-in-law, Nyla Musser of Black River Falls, Beverly Brown of Melrose, Elizabeth Schmidt of Melrose, and Edna (William) Schelble of Tucson, AZ. She also leaves behind many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Carrie Musser; an infant son; husband of 68 years, Chester; brothers, John, Earl, Millard, Victor, and Louis; sisters, Mildred (Russell) Mahlum, and Margaret (Lyle) Rommel.

The family wishes to thank Marinuka Manor, Galesville, for its wonderful care of Marian these past two years, as well as Gundersen Health System Hospice.

A graveside service for family and close friends will be held in Melrose Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at the Melrose Rod & Gun Club, rural Melrose. Online condolences may be offered at http://www.schanhoferfh.com
