Mark Anthony Hoffman, Sr., 69, passed away at home in Black River Falls on Friday, August 16, 2024. Mark was born on June 18, 1955, to Dorothy (Sizemore) and Ernest Hoffman in Detroit, MI.

As a toddler he lived in Panama where his father was deployed. But Mark’s childhood was spent in the Detroit area. Mark loved football, playing for Madison High School in Madison Heights, MI. He also wrestled and played baseball. Mark told stories of football camp in Georgia where he spent summers with his uncles.

Mark married Karen Brown in April of 1975. Mark and Karen raised two children, a son, Mark Jr., and a daughter, Victoria. They later divorced.

Mark’s first job out of High School was at the U Haul in Ferndale, MI. Other jobs in factories followed, but he finally landed a custodian position at Beecher Junior High in Hazel Park, MI. He then drove truck for various companies for the rest of his working years. In all the over-the-road miles Mark never had an accident. Mark always had a truck that was clean inside and out. He took pride in his work. Mark was a member of the Lions Club in Hazel Park, MI.

Mark coached many youth sports teams when his children were young. He also took his children hunting, fishing, and camping as young children.

After his divorce, Mark moved to Merrillan, WI. He had hunted here in Jackson County many times during deer season with friends so he knew the area. He moved to Black River Falls in 2017 after meeting Carol Anderson.

Mark loved people. He could have a conversation with anyone. He always had a story or joke to tell. Mark served as a volunteer at Black River Memorial Hospital for a few years. He had a smile for everyone, but Mark also had strong opinions and loved a good debate. He would argue for the underdog.
Mark was an avid hunter and fisherman. He told stories about great catches in the St. Claire River and other favorite fishing holes. He recounted hunts for deer, turkey, quail, rabbit, wild boar, and raccoon. Mark always had a dog or cat to spoil. He leaves behind Tasha, his calico cat.

Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, aunts, and uncles, as well as three siblings. Mark was also preceded in death by his best friend, Steve Wall.

Mark is survived by his son, Mark A. (Theoni) Hoffman, Jr.; his daughter Victoria (Adam) Shepardson; his grandchildren, Julian, Mark III, Christian, and Natalia; his favorite uncle Jimmy (Nan) Sizemore; his significant other Carol M. Anderson; seven siblings Wesley, Johnny, Jackie, Leesha, Robert, Robin, and William; along with many friends and adopted Wisconsin family.

No services will be held at Mark’s request.
