The Jackson County Board of Supervisors has officially declared May as Mental Health Awareness Month, joining a nationwide effort led since 1949 to promote mental wellness and reduce stigma.
This year’s theme, “More Good Days, Together,” highlights that mental health looks different for everyone and encourages small, meaningful steps toward well-being.
Jackson County Behavioral Health is expanding outreach efforts, including the return of green awareness flags across Black River Falls displaying crisis contact information. Green ribbons, banners, and yard signs will also be visible throughout the community to promote awareness and support.
Officials say mental health remains a critical issue, with 1 in 5 adults affected each year. Locally, more than 300 crisis contacts were reported in 2025 alone.
A free Wellness Extravaganza will be held May 13th at the Milt Lunda Memorial Arena, offering resources and activities for residents.
If you or someone you know needs help, the Jackson County Crisis Line is available 24/7 at 888-552-6642, or you can call or text 988 for the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
