The Melrose-Mindoro Area School District announced the names of the two finalists for their
superintendent opening today. The finalists were selected from an original field of five highly
qualified individuals.

The finalists are: Corey Peterson, currently the elementary principal and curriculum coordinator at the
Melrose-Mindoro Area School District, and Deanna Wiatt, currently the director of instruction for the School District of West Salem.

Mr. Peterson began his teaching experience in 2001 as a high school social studies teacher in
Neillsville, Wisconsin. From 2003 to 2011, he was the high school social studies teacher at West
Salem High School, West Salem, Wisconsin. He began his administrative career in 2011, when
he became the high school principal, activities director and curriculum coordinator in the
Greenwood School District, Greenwood, Wisconsin. In 2012, he began his current position as
elementary school principal and curriculum coordinator in the Melrose-Mindoro School District
in Melrose, Wisconsin. Mr. Peterson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Broad Field Social
Studies from University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and a Master of Arts degree in Educational
Leadership from Viterbo University, La Crosse, Wisconsin.

The Melrose-Mindoro School Board plans to conduct interviews on Monday, April 17. The
interviews will include an interview by the board of education and an interview by the district
leadership team. In addition, community members, parents, students, and staff members are
invited to attend an Open Forum that evening to meet the candidates and to ask questions. The
two-candidate Open Forum interview times will be 5:00 and 6:10 pm in the school auditorium.

The new superintendent will replace Jeff Arzt, who will be retiring June 30, 2023.
