Mickey Lee Oium, 53, of Menomonie, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Mayo
Clinic Health System in Menomonie.
Mick was born on August 2, 1970 in Mondovi, though grew up with his mom and 5 siblings in Eleva and
Strum. In high school, Mick was involved in various sports including football, basketball and baseball.
After graduating from Eleva-Strum High School, Mick attended briefly at the UW-Stevens Point until
transferring to Mt. Senario College, where he was able to play 2 seasons of college football with his twin
brother, Rick. He was united in marriage to Lisa Buchli, and though they later divorced, the couple had
three children: Taylor, Ryan and Brandon, and Mick welcomed a bonus son: Matt. Mick worked for 28
years as a freight loader with the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Menomonie, where he was still
currently employed. Mick developed many friendships over the years, sharing a strong work ethic with
all of his co-workers. In his spare time, Mick enjoyed watching all sports, rooting on and adding his own
commentary to the Packers, Brewers, Bucks, and Badgers. He liked to visit casinos, participate in fantasy
sports leagues, had a vast collection of various sports cards, and thought he was good at golf recently.
His love and knowledge of sports, “work hard, play hard” mindset, and easy-going nature will be missed
and remembered by his loved ones.
Mick is survived by his children: Taylor (Matthew) Harris and Ryan Oium both of South Carolina,
Brandon Oium of Appleton, and Matt Volkman of Chicago, IL; siblings: Lonnie Oium of Black River Falls,
twin brother: Rick Oium of Menomonie, Teresa (Brad) Durst and Tami (Darren Higley) Oium, both of

He was preceded in death by his mother: Donna (Johnson) Oium-Sturz; brother: Larry Oium;
grandparents: Maurice “Koog” and Ruth Johnson; great-nephew: Karl Knuth; cousin: Tom Livingston;
and many other aunts, uncles, and other relatives.
