Monroe County residents now have an additional option for safely disposing of used medical
sharps. In addition to the existing disposal site at the Monroe County Health Department in
Sparta, residents may now drop off properly contained sharps at Scenic Bluffs Community
Health Centers, located at 238 Front St. in Cashton. Scenic Bluffs accepts sharps during their
business hours of Monday-Thursday from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Friday from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The Health Department continues to offer free sharps disposal at 315 West Oak St. during
business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The added location at Scenic
Bluffs provides another convenient option for residents seeking safe disposal services.

Sharps must be placed in a biohazard container or another puncture-resistant, thick plastic
container, such as heavy-duty laundry detergent bottle with a secure lid. Free sharps containers
are available at the front desk.

Proper sharps disposal is critical for protecting community health and safety. Used needles,
syringes, and lancets should never be thrown in the trash, recycling, or flushed down the toilet.
Children, adults, pets, sanitation workers, and others can be harmed when sharps are discarded
incorrectly.

By offering multiple safe disposal sites, Monroe County aims to reduce injury risks and support
responsible disposal practices. Residents are encouraged to bring used medical sharps to the
Monroe County Health Department or Scenic Bluffs Community Health Centers.
