Nancy Sue Burchard (Burch), of Black River Falls, passed away with her family at her bedside, on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at Pineview Care Center in Black River Falls. Nancy will always be remembered for her dedication to her daughter Sandy, her grandchildren, and to both BRF Tiger and Lincoln Hornet sports.

Nancy was born in Black River Falls in 1944 to Zelda and Tremaine Burchard. She grew up in BRF and graduated from the high school in 1962. Shortly after, Nancy and life long friend Georgia, traveled to Milwaukee to work for the Schlitz Brewing Company. The stories that were made there still make us laugh today. From there she went to work in multiple jobs around the state, ending up working for Jackson County for over 30 years. Though she worked hard all of her life, many people have commented that she was the poster child for retirement.

Nancy loved to travel and took many trips with friends and family. Trips with her bowling crew were too many to count. They traveled many states, meeting people, and maybe even bowling a little. She was always up for a bus trip, cruise, or tour of any kind.

When she was not traveling, she was attending every sporting event her grandchildren were involved in and even the ones they weren’t in. You could find her either on the bleachers or her lawn chair, supporting her grandkids and oftentimes maybe even telling them during the game what they needed to do a time or two. She also traveled to many Brewer and Packer games. When she wasn’t watching sports live, she was watching her Brew Crew, NASCAR races, and the Packers (where she was a season ticket holder). When she was young, Nancy and her dad went to stock car races in Black River Falls and continued going to race car venues with friends throughout her life. She also loved bantering with her grandchildren about the Brewers and watching games with them.

It should be noted another special group in her life was with her swimming “mermaids” and her “Tic/Hardee’s” crew on Friday mornings. She was an original mermaid and looked forward to those times hanging with friends drinking coffee and playing cards. Sometimes even taking her grandson Ben along to learn the ropes.

Nancy is survived by her daughter Sandy and son-in-law, Brian Huglen. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Abby, Jake, Ben, Alyssa, Kayla and Eric. She is also survived by her sisters Jackie (Rod) Burlingame and Jean (Hank) Burow. Included with them are many nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, and great-great nephews who she held dear. Also survived by a cherished step-sons, Wayne and Rich Ewert, and so many great friends.

A private family celebration is being held. If you have a Nancy story to share please contact Sandy at sjhuglen@yahoo.com or through facebook.

Nancy’s family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to the staff at Pine View Terrace Assisted Living, Pine View Care Center and St. Croix Hospice for their love and care of Nancy in her final months of her life.
