Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has declared September Preparedness Month, encouraging residents statewide to prepare for emergencies and disasters.
ReadyWisconsin says residents should know the risks in their communities, make plans for receiving emergency alerts and reaching safe locations, and establish ways to reconnect with family and friends.
Officials also recommend keeping an emergency kit with enough supplies to last several days. Residents are encouraged to learn first aid or CPR, sign up for multiple emergency-alert systems, check on neighbors who may need assistance, and volunteer with disaster-response organizations.
ReadyWisconsin also urges people to share reliable information during emergencies and watch for scams that can follow disasters.
The national Preparedness Month campaign theme this year is “Americans Stand Ready.”
