The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is reminding residents that native plant sales are taking place across the state now through early June.

The sales, hosted by local nonprofits and community organizations, give people a chance to purchase plants that benefit pollinators while also supporting conservation efforts. Many events offer online preorders as well as in-person sales, with some requiring advance orders in March or April.

DNR conservation biologist Amy Staffen says adding native plants to your yard can provide important habitat and food sources for butterflies, bees, birds, and other wildlife. She says the sales are a simple way for both beginner and experienced gardeners to get involved while adding color to their outdoor spaces.

The DNR has compiled a statewide list of native plant sales and maintains a directory of native plant nurseries on its Native Plants webpage. The site also includes information about pollinator gardens, rain gardens, plant lists, and other resources to help residents get started.

More information and updates on upcoming plant sales are available on the Wisconsin DNR’s Native Plants webpage.
