Patricia Ann McGowan, 71, of Black River Falls WI, passed away March 10, 2025 peacefully in
her home with family at her bedside.
Patti was born in Monroe WI in 1953 to Carrol and Ann Holmes. The oldest of her five siblings,
she grew up on the family dairy farm in Argyle WI. Patti loved children, graduated from U-W
Platteville with a Bachelors in Education, and went on to a long career as a beloved first grade
teacher.
In 1973 Patti married Mike McGowan and started a family. They went on to have three children,
Thad, Lisa, and Matt. The family settled in Black River Falls in 1988 and Patti spent the
remainder of her career teaching first grade at Warrens Elementary. She was a dedicated
member of St Joseph’s catholic church, the Jackson County 2020 recipient for Women in
History, and an inspiring example to others.
Predeceased by her parents, Carrol and Ann Holmes and her brother Tim Holmes. Patti is
survived by her husband Mike and their children Thad McGowan (Kelly), Lisa McGowan, Matt
McGowan. Grandchildren Sophia Dellapenta and Clarissa McGowan. Siblings Michelle
Gruenberg (Craig), Tom Holmes (Julie), Laurie Meixelsberger (Dave), and Jim Holmes.
Patti was a wonderful example of love, strength and support to her family and community.
Through all of life’s adversities, Patti remained a steadfast partner to Mike, and joyful example
of faith and determination.
Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph’s Guardian Angel’s Catholic Church in Black River
Falls, WI on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Father Arivu Mariappan will officiate.
Friends and family are invited to visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. A luncheon
will immediately follow the service at the church.
