The American Red Cross is urging people to give blood or platelets in September as the nation’s blood supply remains vulnerable despite recovering from critically low levels over the summer.
From September 1 through 20, 2026, donors who give blood or platelets can receive an exclusive Red Cross × Hello Kitty plush mascot clip and surprise sticker pack, while supplies last. The promotion is part of a partnership with Hello Kitty and Friends highlighting the importance of kindness and caring for others.
The Red Cross says back-to-school activities and the potential for Atlantic tropical systems could make it more difficult to maintain adequate blood supplies. Donors are encouraged to schedule and keep appointments now to help ensure blood products are available during emergencies and natural disasters.
Appointments can be made through RedCrossBlood.org, the Red Cross Blood Donor App, or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.
