Donating school supplies to one of the four area public school districts is an annual project conducted by
the Jackson County Area Retired Educators (JCARE). However, this year it was decided to give a
monetary contribution to the Black River Area Foster Closet whose mission “is to provide a free resource
to help support caregivers of children in foster care settings by providing basic supplies and clothing for
the children being cared for.” What could be a better time for JCARE to supplement the Foster Closet’s
operating budget than this, the beginning of the school year? JCARE will resume its school supply
donations next year (the organization’s seventh year) to one of the four school districts, Melrose-
Mindoro, Black River Falls, Blair-Taylor or Alma Center-Humbird-Merrillan.
Cheryl Gabrielson , JCARE’s School Donation Committee chairperson, presented a check recently to
Foster Closet’s co-ordinators Anneliese Eddy and Bobbi Kitowski
