The Wisconsin Electric Cooperative Association (WECA) has appointed Rob Richard as its new president and CEO. Richard has been serving as the interim leader since August, in addition to his role as vice president of government relations and external affairs. He also heads the Federated Youth Foundation.
WECA Board Chair Dan Hillberry praised Richard’s exceptional leadership and commitment, noting that after a thorough nationwide search with over 100 applicants, the board unanimously selected him for the position. Hillberry emphasized Richard’s ability to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of operations as the association advocates for Wisconsin’s electric cooperatives and their members.
In his acceptance, Richard expressed gratitude for the board’s confidence and acknowledged the mentorship of former WECA president Steve Freese, who passed away in August after a battle with cancer.
Richard, a UW-Platteville graduate, has a background in legislative affairs and has been with WECA since January 2019. He resides in Sauk City with his wife, Carrie, and their two children.
