Robert H. (bob) Nesbitt

Robert H. (Bob) Nesbitt, 89 of Black River Falls passed away on Tuesday, August 4,
2026 at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc. He was born on January 16, 1937 to
Percy and Leona (Johnson) Nesbitt in Virginia, Minnesota.
Bob attended school in Virginia, Minnesota, and graduated from high school in 1955.
While in high school, he played football and baseball, and ran track.
Bob attended the Michigan College of Mining and Technology, where he earned his
Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering in 1959. He was united in marriage
to Phyllis Erickson on June 20, 1959. After living in various places in the Upper
Penisula and Minnesota, they settled in Black River Falls, Wisconsin in 1969 where they
raised their three sons.
After Jackson County Iron Company ceased operation, Bob moved back to Virginia,
Minnesota in 1984 to continue work in the mining industry. Upon retirement, Bob and
Phyllis moved back to Black River Falls in 1992.
Bob was a member of the Black River Falls city council for nearly 20 years. He served
as an alderman both in the 1970s-1980s and after returning to the city in 1992. He was
a Little League coach and an active member of the United Methodist Church in his
younger years. In addition, he enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and golfing.
Bob is survived by his three sons, John (Chris) of Waukesha, WI, Michael (Sandra) of
Auburn, WA, and James (Sandra) of Seattle, WA; brother Floyd (Joann) Nesbitt; sister
Marilyn Charlson; sister-in-law Barb Nesbitt; five grandchildren, Trevor (Hiromi), Kyle
(Sandra), Sara (Joel), Madison, and Zachary; 2 great grandchildren, Evelyn and
Eleanor; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Phyllis, his brother Lowell Nesbitt,
and one granddaughter, Mackenzie.
Visitation for family and friends will take place at 1:00 pm on Monday, August 17, 2026
at the United Methodist Church in Black River Falls. A funeral service will be held at the
church at 2:00 pm. Pastor Eric Taylor will officiate. Burial will follow in the Riverside
Cemetery.
Torgerson’s Funeral Home of Black River Falls is assisting the family with
arrangements.
Memorials are suggested in Bob’s honor to Interfaith Volunteers of Jackson County, WI
or the American Heart Association.
