Roger Dale Peters passed away on Sunday, August 27 th 2023 at79 years of age surrounded by family.
He was born on September 27, 1943 in Melrose to Violet (Clair) and Harrison Peters. He married Judy
Stirn on September 29, 1962 at First Lutheran Church in Blair.
Roger was a man of many talents and worked a variety of jobs before he found his calling. He worked a
number of labor jobs prior to working at the cheese plant in Blair. He spent some time working as an
electrician before moving into logging prior to his employment at Webster Lumber industries in Blair.
He managed the Blair mill for a number of years and admitted that his management style was my way or
the highway and shared that the best way to get around what you could say regarding employee
references was to simply state, “Let’s just say they are the type of employee you are always looking for.”
Roger and Judy had a mink ranch for many, many years together. His skills from trapping helped much
with that business and it was definitely a family affair as the whole family was involved in the family
business.
Roger’s family grew first with two sons, Steve and Ryan who he raised to share his love of all things
hunting, fishing and trapping. He made certain that he taught his next generation the things he knew.
Just as he and Judy thought they were going to reach empty nester status, their daughter Nicole joined
the family.
In his retirement, Roger started a pheasant hunting preserve with his three children. There were lots of
laughs and lots of love during the time the preserve was in business. Any time you see a pheasant
rooster, think of Roger.
Roger was a story teller. One never knew for sure whether or not his stories were true or his version of
a tall tale. All three children were raised hearing the stories of how as he walked to school each morning
as a child, he would put his milk jar in his back pocket so that he could make sure it fell out of his back
pocket and shattered so he didn’t have to actually drink it.
While Roger was never one to donate per se to charitable organizations he had a warm and giving heart.
His annual garden was its own version of Feed America. If you stopped by and asked for six ears of corn,
you were more likely to get two dozen ears of corn.
Roger is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Judy; two sons, Steve (Karen) Peters of Ettrick and Ryan
(Shari) Peters of Blair; a daughter, Nicole (Cathy Bass) Peters of Blair; three granddaughters, Kaylee
(Justin) Waldvogel of Ettrick, Kassie (Chad) Maasen of Blair and Alexa (Chase) Becherer of Menomonie; a
grandson, Luke (Brenna) Peters of Hixton; three great-grandchildren, Aspen and Barret Waldvogel and
Myla Maasen; a brother, Darwin (Marlene) Peters of rural Blair; many nieces and nephews and close
friends and his very special dog, Patty.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters , Ardell (Gaylord) Tollefson, Jannette (Kenny)
Johnson and June (Allen) Moen and a granddaughter, Ashley Peters.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in Blair Lutheran Church West
with Pastor Paul Sannerud officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 30, 2023 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Blair and also
one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Memorials may be designated to the Blair Food Pantry or the Rita Tranberg Memorial “Paying it
Forward”.
