Sharon K. Mikula, age 75, passed away peacefully with family present on Monday, June
29,
2026 at Eagle Crest South in La Crosse.
Sharon Filla was born in Arcadia, WI on July 2, 1950, the eldest child of Rufus and
Martha
(Gandera) Filla. She graduated from high school in Arcadia and went on to graduate
from the St. Joseph School of Nursing in Marshfield, WI in May 1971. On August 14,
1971, Sharon was united in marriage to her true love, James Mikula, at St. Michael’s in
North Creek. They started their lives together in Marshfield, where she first worked at
the convalescent center. She later began working for Marshfield Clinic, spending most
of her career with the Security Health Plan. Sharon’s favorite hobbies and talents
included both baking and scrapbooking. No matter the relationship or the event, Sharon
was always excited to bake several kinds of cookies and bars for everyone to enjoy.
And before they indulged, everyone would marvel at works of art Sharon created and
then they would rave about how wonderful each and every piece tasted. Sharon was
also always the peskiest with the camera, often demanding posed photos from all
partygoers. And she would get each and every photo she wanted because, afterwards,
it was time to scrapbook the event. Despite having to keep posing for photos, family and
friends greatly appreciated the beautiful books they received with their cherished
memories included.
The common theme across of all this was “Family.” Sharon did all of this work out of
love for
her family, making sure everyone knew exactly how special they were. For her children,
she
dedicated her time to making sure they were at practice and games on time and making
sure they ate properly and kept their educations at the forefront. Later, Sharon and Jim
would travel around the country to attend the grandkids’ events and go on wonderful
family
vacations. Sharon will forever be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister
and
aunt.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents: Rufus and Martha; and her husband,
Jim.
Sharon is lovingly survived by her children: Christopher (Brenda) of Janesville and his
daughters Morgan and Madison; Gina Hoffman (William) of Lakeville, MN, and their
children Haley, Jonah, and Lucas; Meggan Wingerter (John) of South Park, PA, and
their children Benjamin, Thomas, Madeleine, and William; and Andrew (Amy) of
Onalaska and their children Terra, and a son on the way; her siblings Jane Gilkerson
(Steve) of Minnetonka, MN; Julie Smith (Rick) of Brookfield, WI; Tom Filla (Tammy) of
Fontana, CA; Dan Filla (Nancy) of Arcadia, WI; and Jim Filla of Arcadia, WI; many
nieces and nephews; and her brother-in-law Alan Mikula (Gail) of Marshfield, WI.
The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Croix Hospice and Eagle Crest.
