On Saturday afternoon, the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle crash on 7th Street near Senty Drive in the City of Independence. Investigators say a BMW SUV was heading south when it accelerated into a curve, left the road, and struck a tree.
The driver, 26-year-old Lazaro Yoel Betancourt Lopez, was cited for failing to keep the vehicle under control. He was taken by Arcadia Ambulance to Tri-County Hospital in Whitehall with non-life-threatening injuries. A juvenile passenger also received non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by private vehicle.
Independence Fire Department, Independence First Responders, and Arcadia Ambulance assisted at the scene. The crash investigation is now closed.
