The Spring Mass at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church, rural Melrose, will be on
Sunday, May 28, at 1:30 p.m. Father Arivu Mariappan, of Guardian Angels Parish,
will officiate. The Mass is open to the general public.
Prior to the Mass, a Memorial Service will be conducted at 1:15 p.m. in the
cemetery. Veterans buried at the cemetery are: Civil War-James Bulger, Michael
Bulger, Michael Crawley, James Dunnigan, and Frank Melvin; WWII-Claire
“Junior” McCormick, Eugene McCormick, Gordon McCormick, James Savage,
Robert Waller, Wayne G. Hansen, and Jack Gilbert; Korean War-Harold
Krosinski, and Vietnam-David W. Hansen.
St. Malachy’s Church was built in the early 1870’s. It was closed in July 1980.
Since a successful restoration project in 1990, a Spring Mass and a Fall Mass of
Thanksgiving are held annually. For more information on the Spring Mass or St.
