Stacy Lyn Shramek, 54, of Hixton, Wisconsin, was found deceased on Tuesday, January 9 th ,
2024, after her disappearance from the Black River on November 23 rd , 2023.
Stacy was born on December 10th, 1969, to William (Bill) and Marianne Simpson in Sandwich,
Illinois. After graduating from Grafton High School in 1988, she went on to college at UW-La
Crosse. Stacy spent two years at UW-La Crosse, then transferred to UW-Eau Claire to pursue
a degree in a career that would soon become a significant part of her life.
After graduating with a degree in nursing, Stacy started her first job at Black River Memorial
Hospital, where she served several different roles in nursing throughout her 30+ years there.
From intern to manager and everything in between, Stacy was known by her colleagues as
compassionate, kind, trustworthy, humble, intelligent, dedicated and a friend to all. Stacy was a
teacher to her colleagues, a leader to her employees, and a compassionate caregiver to each
and every one of her patients. She would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. Whether
she was having a good day or a bad one, she would put her needs aside to listen to yours.
In 1988, Stacy met Chris in Black River Falls and they went on to get married in 1995 and had
two daughters, Mackenzie and Madison. Those who knew Stacy knew how important family
was to her, especially her two daughters whom she loved so dearly. Stacy worked hard to make
sure she could give her girls the best life possible, and that she did.
Stacy loved to travel. She always found her way to the ocean, where she savored her time in
the sun. She wanted nothing more than to be a grandmother and be able to watch her family
grow and spread her love to more people. We will miss her light, her beautiful smile, her
contagious laugh, her enormous heart, her warm hugs, and her joyful personality.
Stacy was preceded in death by her dad, William (Bill) Simpson, her dear aunts Barbara Ferrill
and Patricia Ferrill, and both paternal and maternal grandparents.
She is survived by her daughters Mackenzie Shramek and Madison (Austin) Shramek, her
husband Chris Shramek, her mother Marianne Ferrill Simpson, her sister Marcy True, her
beloved dog Rocky, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends who loved
her dearly.
A visitation will be held at Torgerson’s Funeral Home in Black River Falls on Friday, January
26th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 pm. On Saturday, January 27th, there will be a visitation beginning
at 11:00 am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Black River Falls. The Wisconsin Nurse Honor
Guard will be conducting a brief memorial, beginning at 12:00 p.m. at the church. We welcome
Stacy’s friends and colleagues to attend this memorial to pay respects to her many years
dedicated to the nursing profession. The funeral service will follow the memorial, and burial will
be held at Riverside Cemetery immediately after funeral mass. We welcome those in
attendance back to the church for a luncheon following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for monetary donations to be shared amongst the search and
recovery teams who put in endless hours to bring Stacy home.

working to find Stacy.
