(Madison, WI) — The state’s Employment Relations Commission says UW Health does not have to recognize its nurses’ union. The Commission last week quietly ruled against the union, and ruled for the hospital. Nurses wanted the governor to push the university toward recognizing them, then negotiating for more money and different hours. The Employment Relations Commission essentially rules that the state law on union recognition does not apply to the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics. The nurses say they ‘respect’ the Commission, but disagree with the decision.
