Wisconsin health officials are warning residents to take extra precautions as tick activity reaches its seasonal peak. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services says young blacklegged, or deer ticks, are driving high tick levels across the state. These tiny nymphal ticks can spread diseases such as Lyme disease and anaplasmosis and are often difficult to spot. Health officials recommend wearing long sleeves and pants, using insect repellent, and performing daily tick checks on yourself, family members, and pets. Anyone experiencing fever, rash, fatigue, or other flu-like symptoms after spending time outdoors should contact a healthcare provider.
