Keeping hospital rooms clean is a top priority at Tomah Health.

So hospital officials have started a national certification program to ensure that staff who clean the facility… Environmental Services Technicians … are among the best in the industry.

According to Tomah Health Facility Services Director Steve Loging, the American Hospital Association’s Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician …or CHEST program, helps validate the cleanliness of the hospital and the skill of staff.

Loging said only a few area rural health care facilities have embarked on the certification program.

He said the hospital kicked off the initiative by securing a grant, which enabled him to obtain a “train the trainer” certification, which allows him to run the classes for the nearly 20 hospital staff.

He hopes to complete the staff training in the next 18 months.
