The Tuesday Club of Black River Falls has announced this year’s winners of the club’s annual Eighth Grade Creative Writing Contest. The contest was started in 1911 and includes the Dorothy Upton Award.

This year’s top two winners were Charlie Heath and Makayla Steffen, both of Black River Falls. Makayla was also the winner of the Dorothy Upton Award. The Dorothy Upton Award was started in 1993 and is presented to a Black River Falls student in memory of Dorothy Upton who taught in Black River Falls for twenty-two years, until she retired in 1976.

Honorable mention winners were Jaxon Worthington and Alizibeth Dunigan, both of Melrose. Tuesday Club began in 1890 and currently consists of about 45 members from Jackson County. The contest fits nicely with the mission of Tuesday Club to stimulate interest in and support the arts and well-being of the community through kindly social interaction while enriching the lives of its members.

Tuesday Club Creative Writing Committee would like to thank the area schools and teachers for cultivating the arts and participating in the Creative Writing Contest, which has become a long standing tradition in Jackson County.
