More than 2.9 million opioid prescriptions are written every year in Wisconsin. When unused
and expired medications start to pile up, it’s easy for them to fall into the wrong hands. Far too
often, medications that get overlooked cause unintended harm or become a gateway to
misuse.
If you have unused or expired medications in your home, there are places to safely dispose of
them. Throwing these medications in the trash or dumping them down a drain damages our
environment. Bring them to the Drug Take Back Day event on Saturday, April 27 from 8 a.m. –
2 p.m. at 20448 Junco Rd, Norwalk. Bring prescriptions and over-the-counter medications,
ointments, patches, inhalers, non-aerosol sprays, creams, vials, and pet medications. This event
is held during Monroe County Solid Waste’s Clean Sweep Event, which you can learn more
about here: http://www.co.monroe.wi.us/departments/solid-waste
If you can’t make the event, Monroe County has several permanent drug drop box locations
throughout the county (times vary depending on location):
 Sparta Police Department: 711 Pine St, Sparta
 Tomah Police Department: 805 Superior Ave, Tomah
 Norwalk Village Hall: 208 S Church St, Norwalk
 Wilton Community Center: 400 East St, Wilton
