The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has confirmed one new case of measles in Chippewa County. Health officials say there are currently no public exposure locations associated with the case. DHS says the Chippewa County case is related to out-of-state travel and is not connected to the ongoing measles outbreak in southwestern Wisconsin.
Since August, measles cases have also been reported in Grant, Iowa, Lafayette, Marathon and Vernon counties. As of September 22nd, Wisconsin had 171 confirmed measles cases in 2026.
DHS reminds residents that measles is highly contagious and can spread through the air. Symptoms typically appear 10 to 21 days after exposure and can include fever, cough, runny nose, red or watery eyes and a rash.
Anyone who develops symptoms should call a health care provider before going to a clinic or doctor’s office, so precautions can be taken to prevent exposing others.
