Wisconsin’s meat processing industry is getting a $1.07 million boost through federal funding announced November 2 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Congressman Bryan Steil.
The funding will help four Wisconsin businesses expand processing capacity, purchase modern equipment, and create opportunities for local farmers and workers.
The grant recipients include:
– **Durand Smokehouse LLC:** $158,250 for production equipment.
– **Lake Geneva Country Meats:** $212,268 for new packaging equipment.
– **Salcherts Market Inc. in St. Cloud:** $250,000 for production equipment.
– **Wilson Farm Meats Inc. in Elkhorn:** $456,129 to reconfigure part of its facility and install new processing equipment.
The grants are being awarded through USDA’s Meat and Poultry Processing Expansion Program, Phase 4.
USDA officials say the investments are intended to strengthen Wisconsin’s beef industry, expand local processing opportunities, support family farms, and help create jobs while giving consumers more options.
Congressman Bryan Steil says increasing processing capacity could also help lower costs for Wisconsin families.
The program is part of USDA Rural Development’s ongoing efforts to strengthen rural businesses and communities across Wisconsin.
