Vilas James Kamrowski, 72, of rural Galesville, died on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at
Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.
Vilas was born in Arcadia on November 3, 1952, to Joseph and Elaine (Breining) Kamrowski.
He grew up on his family farm and learned the value of hard work. He was employed at various
places and became a “Jack of all Trades” always working with his hands. Vilas enjoyed
recycling scrap metal and cutting firewood in addition to his fabrication jobs. When he wasn’t
working, Vilas was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman. He traveled around the area to local
auctions- usually looking for a good deal or an old piece of farm equipment. Vilas was united in
marriage to Dorothy Leisgang in 1978 in Galesville, and though the marriage didn’t last, the
couple was blessed with and proud of their 4 hard-working children: Matt, Dominick, Janie and
Diane. Vilas was a devoted member of Holy Family Parish, Arcadia, where he served often as
an usher and faithfully prayed the Rosary. His traditional values and strong work-ethic will be
carried on through his legacy he has left behind.
Vilas is survived by his children: Matt Kamrowski of Galesville, Dominick (Jill) Kamrowski of
Strum, Janie (Mike Mock) Kamrowski of Osseo, and Diane (Adam) Fortek of Kronenwetter, WI;
grandchildren: Aaron and Blaise Kamrowski of Strum and Quinten, Arlo, and Scarlett Fortek of
Kronenwetter; former wife: Dorothy Kamrowski; sister: Rita (Randy) Kronebusch of Winona; and
several nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
