Virginia “Ginny” Mae Clipper, age 86, of Whitehall, died on Thursday, October 27,
2022 in her home with her family at her side.
Virginia was born on April 7, 1936, the second child of four born to Harry and
Lanth (Thompson) Stai Sr. in Hixton. The family lived in Taylor where she
graduated from high school in 1953. Virginia went to the LaCrosse Technical
College until she qualified for a secretarial job at Swift & Company.
Virginia married Maynard O. Clipper on May 28, 1954 in Taylor. They had three
children, Craig Maynard, Kan Ann and David Henry who were all born in
LaCrosse where Maynard worked first for the Piggly Wiggly stores and then as a
salesman for Kraft Foods. The family moved to Whitehall in 1964 when the
opportunity came to by a grocery store. Virginia worked as a checker and
posted bookwork for the business. The family went on to build three full size
retail grocery stores in Whitehall, Independence and Blair.
The Clipper’s both enjoyed golf, bowling and card parties playing 500, whist and
bridge. They traveled to Portugal, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii and many places in
the continental United States.
Virginia was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and served as a
Sunday school teacher, congregation secretary and later treasurer, trustee,
WELCA secretary and was in the altar guild.
In the community, she was a treasurer for the Booster Club, president of Music
Mothers, GFWC president for many years, GFWC treasurer for the Northern
District and Ladies Golf Club president.
Virginia is survived by a daughter, Kay Ann Boland of Whitehall; four grandchildren,
Benjamin Clipper, Morgan, Nickolas and Bryn Boland and a daughter-in-law,
Annette Clipper.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband,
Maynard, on August 25, 2015; two sons, Craig and David; a sister, Marilyn and a
brother, Fred.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in
Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery both in
Whitehall. Pastor Peter Jonas will officiate.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022 from 5-7 p.m. in the Jack
Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church
on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Our Saviour’s Lutheran
Church.
The Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall is assisting the family with arrangements.
