The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a rising number of “warrant” scam calls. Scammers are impersonating law enforcement, claiming you have a warrant for your arrest and demanding immediate payment. Officials say scammers may even use real officer names and spoof caller IDs to look legitimate. Watch out for red flags like urgency, requests for payment through gift cards or apps, or unexpected calls. Remember, law enforcement will never ask you to pay a warrant over the phone. If you do have one, payments must be made in person at the courthouse.
