A longtime Waukesha County crime victim advocate is being recognized for her decades of work supporting survivors and protecting their rights.

Jennifer Dunn, director of the Waukesha County District Attorney’s Office Victim Witness Assistance Program, has received the Champion of Victims’ Rights Award from Marsy’s Law for Wisconsin. The award was presented at the Waukesha County Courthouse.

Dunn has led the county’s Victim Witness Assistance Program since 1997. During that time, she expanded crisis response services to operate around the clock, established a restitution specialist position to help victims recover financially, and created a courthouse comfort dog program featuring Pepper, who helps children and adults navigate the court process.

Dunn has also supported victims following major incidents, including the Waukesha Christmas Parade tragedy, and has worked on legislation addressing victim privacy, restitution and access to services.

In 2021, she received the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Crime Victims’ Service Award.

Marsy’s Law for Wisconsin State Director Nela Kalpic praised Dunn’s compassion and commitment to ensuring crime victims are treated with dignity and respect.

The award recognizes Dunn’s longstanding efforts to strengthen victims’ rights and improve support for survivors throughout Wisconsin.
