The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is responding to a reported manure spill in Trempealeau County that has impacted two unnamed tributaries of Beaver Creek.
According to the DNR, staff visited the site February 23rd after receiving concerns through the agency’s confidential warden hotline. Investigators observed manure running off snow-covered farm fields near the intersection of Oak Ridge Drive and Linden Road in the town of Gale.
On February 24th, crews collected dead fish — including brook trout — from the affected streams.
DNR staff remain on site and are working with local conservation officials as the farm takes steps to address the discharge.
The agency is reminding farmers and agricultural producers to avoid spreading manure during high-risk runoff periods and to consult the Wisconsin Manure Management Runoff Risk Advisory Forecast before applying nutrients.
More information about manure spill prevention is available on the DNR’s website.
