State investigators are looking into an officer-involved death in Chippewa Falls. The Wisconsin Department of Justice says the incident happened the morning of April 9th, when police were called to a hotel on West Park Avenue for a report of wanted individuals.
Authorities say Sergeant James Luckey made contact with three people in a vehicle, and one man—44-year-old Bradley Barnum—ran from the scene. During a foot chase, Barnum reportedly displayed what officers believed was a handgun. Police later identified it as a BB pistol. Investigators say Barnum jumped a patio railing, and the officer fired his weapon, striking him. Despite life-saving efforts, Barnum was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer, who was wearing a body camera, has been placed on administrative leave. The investigation remains ongoing.
