A new survey from the American Federation of Teachers finds many educators are experiencing high levels of stress about a month into the new school year.
The survey of more than 2,000 union members found nearly two-thirds rate their weekly stress at seven or higher on a 10-point scale, while more than 40% say they work a second job. Many teachers also report spending hundreds of dollars of their own money on classroom supplies.
More than 30% said they are likely to leave teaching within the next year, and only 36% said they would recommend the profession to their own children.
The survey also identified concerns about school funding, education policies, book bans and the challenges of using artificial intelligence in the classroom.
