Donald Maier, 60, is currently in prison serving a sentence in an unrelated stalking case.

There are 10 states who put ‘cold case’ information on playing cards with the use of donated funds. These cards are shared in jails and prisons in hopes that they might yield tips to solving cold case crimes.

It is reported while playing with a deck of cold case cards, Maier held up a card for the murder of Benny Scruggs. Benny Scruggs was stabbed to death while he slept. Upon being questioned, the inmate stated Mair looked at Scruggs Cold Case card and said, “That’s the one I committed.”

Assistant Attorney General Robert Kaiser is prosecuting the case.
