The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services has received statewide recognition for its new digital licensing option. The department earned the La Follette/Gladfelter Award for Innovation in State Government from the Wisconsin Policy Forum’s annual Salute to Local Government.
The award honors innovations that improve public service. DSPS Secretary Dan Hereth says the recognition validates the agency’s efforts to make licensing more efficient for Wisconsin’s workforce.
Earlier this year, DSPS became the first state agency in the nation to let professionals download a digital copy of their license to an Apple or Google wallet. So far, nearly 25,000 license holders have used the new feature.
The project was developed in partnership with Tyler Technologies and has already earned another honor — a Government Experience Award from the Center for Digital Government.
The award will be officially presented in November.
