WISCONSIN FORUM TO ADDRESS AGING, DISABILITY AND CAREGIVING ISSUES

Advocates, family caregivers, and service professionals are gathering virtually today to discuss challenges facing older adults, people with disabilities, and the families who care for them.

The nonpartisan policy forum is co-sponsored by the Survival Coalition of Wisconsin Disability Organizations and the Wisconsin Aging Advocacy Network.

Organizers say Wisconsin has approximately 1.4 million residents age 60 and older, 1.1 million family caregivers, and 450-thousand people under age 65 living with disabilities.

The discussion will focus on civil rights protections, access to caregiving services, accessible housing, and special education.

Both major-party candidates for governor were invited to participate but did not accept.

The forum will feature family caregivers, disability advocates, and professionals who work with aging and disability services. Members of the media attending the virtual event will have an opportunity to ask questions following the panel discussion.

The event will also be streamed live and archived on YouTube and Facebook through the Wisconsin Board for People with Developmental Disabilities.
