The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development has released employment and unemployment estimates for January 2025, based on U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data.

Key findings:
📉 Metropolitan Areas: Unemployment rates rose between 0.4 and 1.1 percentage points across all 13 metro areas over the past month and year.
🏙 Major Cities: Unemployment increased in 34 of Wisconsin’s 35 largest cities over the past month, with Mequon being the only exception. Over the year, all 35 cities saw an increase.
📍 Counties: Menominee County’s unemployment rate remained steady, while the remaining 71 counties saw an increase over the past month. Over the year, rates rose in every county except Menominee.
