Health officials have confirmed one new measles case in Richland County, linked to the ongoing outbreak in southwest Wisconsin. Since August, cases have also been reported in seven other counties: Chippewa, Grant, Iowa, Lafayette, Marathon, Rock, and Vernon.
Measles is highly contagious and can cause serious complications, including pneumonia, brain damage, and deafness. Symptoms typically develop 10 to 21 days after exposure.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services urges residents to watch for symptoms and contact a health care provider if they become ill, even if they are unaware of an exposure. Residents are encouraged to monitor the state’s measles dashboard for updates.
