Wisconsin’s Urban Search and Rescue Task Force, known as WI-TF1, has successfully completed its first major out-of-state deployment, aiding North Carolina in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Sixteen members traveled for over 23 hours to assist with swift water rescues and search efforts in Haywood County. Task Force leaders praised the team’s versatility, highlighting their extensive training that prepared them for various rescue disciplines. Wisconsin Emergency Management’s director commended their dedication, noting the significant training required for deployment. The team plans to share their newfound knowledge with local fire departments to enhance future responses.
