On November 1, 2024, at approximately 9:31 PM, a fatal crash occurred on Interstate 90 east near the 46-mile marker, west of Oakdale, Wisconsin. The incident involved a construction worker and a pickup truck.

The investigation revealed that 25-year-old Isaac Morales Jr. was driving a 2002 Dodge Ram in a construction zone when he struck the rear of a semi-truck, lost control, and collided with a road surface machine operated by 35-year-old Andrew Skupniewitz. Tragically, Skupniewitz was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both Morales and his passenger sustained injuries. Interstate 90 eastbound was closed for about six hours to facilitate the investigation and cleanup. Preliminary findings suggest that alcohol and speeding may have been contributing factors.

Morales was arrested by the Tomah Police Department and is facing multiple charges, including Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle and Operating While Intoxicated (2nd offense), among others. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation, with support from various local agencies. Further updates have not yet been released.
